DanceMakers began with the dream of promoting primarily children’s growth and development of themselves through dance and all that it encompasses.
The studio’s inaugural year in 1994 began with a very modest thirty students and has enjoyed expansion of programs and enrollment for over 20 years to include over 400 students.
Bob and Mijka Hooper established DanceMakers in their hometown of Owen Sound after spending considerable time studying, training, working and performing in Toronto. They recognized the demand for a dance studio in the area which would offer options for students to explore dance forms such as Jazz, Ballet, Hip Hop, Acro and Kinder Dance. The program was designed to teach dance skills, but it was important also to enhance self-esteem and confidence through achievement and enjoyment of the arts. All dance programs are geared to the age and ability of the students.
DanceMakers’ venue is a state-of-the-art facility, with over six thousand square feet of space, making it the largest dance centre in the Grey Bruce area. DanceMakers offers three large dance studios equipped with professional dance flooring, full walls of mirrors and barres, as well as quality sound systems. Parents who wish to remain while their children are in class are able to relax in a comfortable space while students will enjoy the benefit of a large changeroom and large bathrooms. A beverage and snack bar compliment the spacious reception area.
DanceMakers will continue to offer programs in Jazz, Ballet, Hip Hop, Acro, Kinder Dance, Dancenastics, Gymnastics, and Martial Arts. Classes are available for students in Beginner to Advanced levels, starting at age two to adults.
DanceMaker Gymnastics is located beside the dance studios and shares the lobby, boutique, washrooms and changerooms. Students who wish to participate in both dance, gymnastics or martial arts receive discounts on multiple classes.
Ninja classes will start in the studio and finish in the gymnastics facility learning tumbling/agility skills.
